The boys participated in the Utah Chess Championship this weekend. It was a rigorous full day event. We got to the Union Building at the U at 7:45am and we didn't leave until 6:15pm. We were done by the time we left. They played 6 games and the boys had great time. We ate pizza for lunch and played more chess while we waited for the next pairings to post. Then the boys would dash for their table and were ready for the next game. Seriously, it was a life experience, something everyone should do once.
Carter was very excited to get home from the chess tournament so he could work on his pinewood derby car. I can't give any details as there may be spies reading our blog, but let's just say...Carter's car is going to be fast. Mostly because it is red and that is a fast color, but watch out!!! They weigh in tomorrow at the church and then all the cars go under lock and key until the derby which is the next day.
I now just sitting across the table from Carter would be intimidating....he is so serious looking and totally in control. By the end of the day the front of his hair was sticking straight up because he would pull up on it when he was thinking....there was a lot of thinking during the chess tournament.
I always have to throw in an Ali photo. She has the most eclectic taste, as she picks out all of her own outfits. The boots are mine though and they look dashing on her.
Is there anything more stressful than taking your child in for surgery? I think not. He was a little nervous but did really great. Byron and I bought him a stuffed dog from the gift shop and he named it Surg. Surg still sleeps with Tyler every night. He was the perfect companion to wake up to. We are hoping this is the last of the hernia surgeries.
A few days after surgery we took Ty in for an eye exam and wa-la he has glasses. They are just for reading but he seems to really like them. Maybe it is the Clark Kent image he is going for. He would tell you that he is totally over Superman though. That was so last year, and the year before, and the year before that.
