I have finally decided I can let go of the old post. I have really loved opening my blog to check on all my friends blogs to find our trip to St Croix. I guess time has come though that our snorkeling won't be the first thing I see when I open the Pollan Post. So March has been busy and February flew by so fast I hardly noticed we lived through it.
Highlights have been...my birthday of course. We went to Provo to see the Carl Bloch exhibit which was stunning and satisfying. I am in love with the Christ and the angel painting in Gethsemane. Too bad that angel has wings or she would have also been adopted by Mormon culture. I may repaint the painting just so I can have my own copy. Mine will have wings though, I loved the wings. Catholics believe, as far as I am understanding it correctly, that angels are their own species and they have wings but Mormons believe angels are spirits like us either before or after life so they don't have their bodies and no wings because we don't have wings and we are created after God's image, who also has no wings. Anyway, that is why the LDS church hasn't adopted the painting I love so much. I personally have no problem with an angel with wings, I think they are lovely. So, I had a great time with my parents, sister, niece, hubby and kiddos looking through the museum. Thank goodness for the bag of jelly beans I slipped into my purse. When I caught people behaving well they got a treat. It kept my Mom in line the whole exhibit. The kids were good too, but the i-pads had more to do with that than the jelly beans.
We ate at Los Hermanos, an old time favorite. The Diablo drinks did not disappoint. Children and parents alike fully enjoyed them. It is so strange going back to campus. So many good memories came flooding back. The museum is right up there by the bell tower and my old stomping grounds freshman year at Heritage Halls. We had some really good times up there. On our way to Los Hermanos we drove by Byron and my first house. We rented a little basement with blue walls. Fun to show the kids. Thirteen years later, we still have a cold basement and we still love each other. We are not breaking any records but we are doing pretty good.
The video above is Carter's first cello recital. He did a great job. He was so nervous. It was fun to watch him count down the kids above him and watch his excitement/dread growing. When he sat back down you could see the visible relief, and he let me feel his sweaty palms. He was definitely nervous but I think he did a great job! Grandma's this is for you. Push the little play button on the left hand side and you can hear how great he did.
As always I have run out of time....the thin mints are also nearly gone so that was a lucky coincidence. I am off to tutor three bright dyslexic students, only one of them is mine. Carter has finished the Barton program! We are now reviewing and trying to fill in any missing rules that didn't sink in all the way. He is doing amazingly well though! I am so grateful to be raising my kids now and not twenty years ago. Thank goodness for modern research.
