Maui- Winter Getaway- Parents Only!!!

I love going away with just my honey. It is so much fun! We hit the island running and after a week we had done pretty much everything. Well, everything we wanted to anyway. We saved some of it to do with the kids when we bring them next year. Whale watching is one of my favorite activities. We saw some really good action on our trip. Five whales were all wrestling around. The four males were jockeying for the attention of the female and they were rolling around trying to get the others out of the way. Lots of flukes and tail fins. We got the out of the water splash right as we were heading into shore. I missed it with the camera and it wasn't so close as last year but we had a really fun day.
Hiking on Maui is a fun adventure. I love that they have no snakes to worry about. I should get over this snake phobia but I just don't like running into them in the wild, or in captivity for that matter, no worries though. No snakes on Maui. Beautiful flora and jungle we hiked through. It is amazing how Maui can be such a dry barren dessert and ten minutes you are driving through the rain forest. It is an island with many faces.
I am the little blip in the middle. Swimming in one of the Seven Sacred Pools. The water was pretty chilly but the scenery made up for it. We hiked across the road away from the tourists a bit and found  another beautiful pool and we swam around in that one as well. Serenity now! It is a beautiful place.
The bamboo forest is by far one of my favorite places on this planet. We had time to walk slowly and take our time. It was beautiful and the poles clink together and make the most calming sounds. The birds in the trees were singing and all our troubles melted away. Byron recorded the forest on his i-phone for me so I can play it back when I need a moment.
Back road to Hanna this year. So you can drive the windy side which they tell all us tourists is the easier way to go, or you can drive the west road which guess what is way better than the east side. We got brave this year and took the forbidden road, SO MUCH BETTER than that stinking road to Hanna they send us on. The only real danger on the west road is the local drivers. They fly around the corners at mock speed. Will never drive the windy road again.
Much thanks to my sweet Mom who kept our kids for an entire week plus one day while we relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. I have never eaten so many tacos in my life. They were mostly all delicious. Byron said Fred's are the best but I kinda preferred Coconuts myself. Maui Taco is up there with the yummy ones as well, love the pineapple salsa. Yes, I did get horribly sunburned. Worst one in years. I have finally stopped itching, it took about two weeks but I am still peeling and it has been four weeks since I got the burn. Seriously now...when will I ever learn. Fun trip. Can't wait for my next chance to escape with my hubby.
