This next two weeks I am taking a class from Anne Marie Oborn. She is a well known impressionist painter in Utah. She studied under Sergie who is a famous Russian impressionist artist. It was a struggle today trying to think out of the box I have been in. I don't know that I am too pleased with the results but I will try again on Thursday. The photo below was taken from where I was painting, I really loved the yellow chair against the blue vase. Maybe if there wasn't the blue scarf I would have liked the results better. Though the two blues were supposed to be a play on a warm blue and a cool blue. I don't know.
It is definitely outside of my usual comfort zone but I have wanted to push my impressionist bones a bit and I think this will be the perfect class for it. Plus we are painting plein air, which is a huge challenge for me but very very exciting. I have been frustrated lately with the limitations of color coming off of my photographs, it is such a limited pallette that a photo is printed on and you loose so much of the dynamics when you try to paint from a photo. We will have to see how Thursday goes. I am off to study my Mary Cassatt book. I need impressionist inspiration.
