Turkey Trot Pollan Style
So Jozsef had the genius idea of doing a Turkey Trot but instead of paying $50 bucks a piece to runt he official race we would do one of our own. Most of us were going to run a 5K, Jozsef was shooting for a 10K. We all headed off and Jozsef and Byron took off together. Ali and I teamed up and Hollie and Carter kind of hung together. Phil was a trooper and kept an eye on the group as a whole. Lucky for me Jason and Tyler came by in a rescue car about a mile into the race. Ali was able to bow out, we blamed it on her shoes. Everyone else kept going. Jozsef and Byron made it to the 5K turn around point and they both kept going. Hollie and Carter made it to the 5K point and turned around. I ran into them on their way back and was surprised to hear Byron had headed on. What? I can't let him go further than me. I made it to our turn around point and kept going. Phil made it to the 5K turn around and wisely turned around.
Byron turned around a bit after the 5K and ran into me still heading out. He was surprised but turned around and joined me towards the 10K turn around point. I am very proud to say we both made it 10K, Jozsef killed our times but we did it. That is the furthest I have ever run in my life. About three quarters of the way through the race my foot really started hurting and if I had been smart I would have walked the rest of the way home. Instead I kept running and was the proud owner of a fractured foot at the end of the race. It only took about 7 weeks to heal and I do believe I learned a valuable lesson in listening to your body but I am still proud I made it to the end of the race. Thank you P90X! Byron and I have been working out hard and for once in my life my lungs were not my inhibitor of distance.
You will often find Tyler in the kitchen with his Nana Pollan whipping up something delicious. How could a boy not be pleased with a tower of Blue Bell ice cream at the ready! Ahhh!
You can see Great Nanny Pollan keeps herself busy in the rose garden. She is often out back trimming off dead heads and caring for the garden. She is such a hard worker.
Jason came up with an idea of having a family dance-off. We were all given about a month to prepare a number to perform for each other during Thanksgiving Break. Our kids at first hated the idea and then very quickly changed their minds and learned an awesome routine they made up. It took about three family home evening sessions to get them to agree on the actions but in the end we made a good showing for ourselves. It even included Byron playing Ali as his guitar. Pretty sweet dance. The next few photos are highlights from our dance night fun!
Laura and Phil lead us in a long chain...right, right, left, left, forward, back, one two three...
Ali just adores Chris's girlfriend Amber. They have the sweetest friendship. Why is it that you always love people who love your kids?
