August- Hiking, Falling and Spinning - warning skinned knees shown in the post....

I have mentioned before that with Byron out of work we are hitting the hills a lot. Well, today the hills hit back. I tripped up on a rock going full speed ahead down the hill and literally flew like superman into a stream. My knee pretty much took the entire brunt of the fall. Nothing broken except my ego as Byron said he though a tree had fallen by the sound of the loud crashing noise I made on landing. It was not my most graceful moment. Once I got cleaned up it didn't look half as bad as it did hiking out all bloody. I seriously though sat in the stream for a good three or four minutes not being able to move. The initial pain was terrible. After a minute or two I was able to walk out and luckily nothing broken. After a couple days of neosporin and gauze wraps. Not looking that awesome. It did eventually heal up nicely though. Only two scars from all that mess so not bad. I'm sure they will settle down with time and you won't hardly notice I scraped my entire knee off.

I have been spinning the fleece I bought at the alpaca farm with the hand spinner, also purchased at the farm. It has been a large learning curve but I have really enjoyed figuring it out. Not as hard as you would think. I would love to get my hands on a real spinning wheel and give it a go. Maybe I should call Sleeping Beauty. She might have an extra one on hand.

Ally is wearing the hat I crocheted out of the alpaca wool. The dark grey yarn is from the craft store, the light gray is the hand spun wool from the farm that I made. I made Byron a hat and had a little left over so Ally begged another off me.

Taking it easy with my poor knee. It kind of hurt a lot for a few days.
Tyler wanted a lesson on how to turn the roving into yarn. He had a go at it for a little while.
Ally is modeling Byron's hat in this photo. More light colored alpaca than dark craft store yarn. This was taken on our pop-up camping trip near Current Creek.
